WHY BODWÉ

We deliver innovative design and all the intangibles

With over two decades of experience with transportation agencies and municipal clients, we know how to be a good partner. Clients appreciate our proficiency in handling every detail of design and permitting for transportation construction and rehabilitation projects. We also partner with Bodwé water experts on drainage infrastructure and protecting waterways and ecosystems our projects cross or may impact.

Pre-Qualified

One of our tribally-owned SBA 8(a) companies, WBK Engineering, is a certified DBE (disadvantaged business enterprise) in the state of Illinois and is pre-qualified by multiple transportation authorities.

Accomplished

We apply technology along with national and local standards to transportation design for municipalities and counties, Illinois Tollway and Department of Transportation, federal agencies, and Native Nations.

Responsible

We work closely with our water resources engineers and environmental resources experts on drainage infrastructure to create safe transportation systems and protect waterways and ecosystems.

Our complete offering of transportation services

Bodwé Group provides a full range of transportation engineering services in partnership with other experts within our Infrastructure Services Branch. We also collaborate seamlessly with our colleagues in the Buildings Branch, providing you with one point of contact for even complex projects and programs.

Feasibility & Corridor Studies

Bodwé conducts feasibility and corridor studies to determine the technical and economic feasibility of a project. We assess the practicality and viability by analyzing technical requirements, potential risks and challenges, project scheduling, cost estimation, market analysis, and financial feasibility to help clients make informed decisions regarding project initiation. Our corridor studies generally focus on evaluating potential routes for roadway development by analyzing various factors, including topography, land use, environmental impact, social considerations, and engineering constraints to identify the most suitable corridor for the proposed roadway. We help minimize environmental and social impact while optimizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the infrastructure.

Highway Design & Construction Documents

We deliver planning, layout, and engineering of roads and highways to ensure functional, efficient, and safe transportation infrastructure, including structure details, lighting plans, and ADA ramp details. Our experience includes geometric design, pavement design, signage, and traffic control, from residential intersections to interstate highways. We partner with Bodwé water resources experts for roadway drainage, stormwater management, and waterway crossing analysis, from concept through permitting. We have deep knowledge of IDOT and Illinois Tollway drainage guidelines and IDNR-OWR permitting rules, and we are well-versed in local stormwater ordinances throughout the northeast Illinois region. We are committed to understanding the unique needs and requirements of every project to develop efficient and cost-effective designs customized to achieve project goals.

Intersection Design Studies

The Bodwé Group offers specialized expertise in intersection design studies. Robust traffic data, including volume, vehicle types, bicyclist traffic, and pedestrian activity, is crucial for understanding the existing conditions and identifying potential issues. Our experts assess the safety performance of the intersection by analyzing crash data, near-miss reports, and other relevant factors to identify patterns and potential hazards to improve safety. We evaluate the capacity of the intersection to handle existing and projected traffic volumes by studying factors such as lane configurations, turning movements, and queue lengths to determine the level of service (LOS).

Location Traffic Studies

Bodwé offers our clients unparalleled expertise in traffic operations analysis and design, including traffic signal design, traffic signal timings and implementation, signal system planning and design, monitoring of closed loop signal systems, traffic signal warrant studies, and general traffic engineering studies. Our extensive background in traffic simulation modeling allows us to provide a wide variety of engineering solutions to serve our clients.

Plans, Specifications, & Estimates

Our team prepares plans, specifications, and cost estimates for projects ranging in size and complexity from local street programs to major expressways. Collaborating across our infrastructure services teams, we also assist clients in applying for and securing grant funding for projects including storm sewer and storm water management, local roads and highways, multi-use paths and pedestrian improvements, parks and streetscapes, streambank stabilization, watermain improvements, parking lots, bridges, and more.

Traffic Management Plans

Our transportation team also offers traffic management plans to help our clients in planning, designing, and implementing effective strategies to manage traffic flow, enhance safety, and minimize disruptions during construction or special events.

Utility Coordination

One of the most the critical aspects of infrastructure planning and development is coordinating and managing utility systems that may be affected by a proposed project, including water, sewer, electricity, gas, telecommunications, and other underground or overhead utility lines. The Bodwé team ensure that these systems are properly identified, located, and accommodated to minimize conflicts and disruptions during construction and operation.

MARKETS

Meeting the diverse needs of a range of clients

Indigenous

Bodwé Group is part of Mno-Bmadsen and wholly owned by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi. Our mission is to serve the more than 6,000 Pokagon citizens through growing the economy and legacy of the Band and our commitment extends to more than 50 Indigenous clients as well as a multitude of partners and friends from coast to coast.

Federal

Focusing on clients that offer us preference as a result of our tribal ownership by the Pokagon Band is essential to our growth. Through our 8(a) contracts and other set-asides, the Bodwé Group has successful past performance on hundreds of projects for many federal departments and agencies, and our Federal Support Services business grows significantly every year.

Municipal

With experience that extends more than 25 years, our municipal and civil engineering team is proud of its long-term relationships with townships, cities, and counties. Often working as an extension of our client team, we are partners in the design, construction, maintenance, and monitoring of infrastructure for municipal sites, roads, utilities, and stormwater management.

Transportation

Our transportation engineering team members are specialists in designing and permitting roadway reconstruction and rehabilitation projects, from local roads to complex highways. Whether we are modeling traffic, analyzing alternatives, designing roundabouts, or overseeing construction, the Bodwé Infrastructure Services branch keeps things moving.

Bridges & Structures

Working with Bodwé transportation and water resource engineers, our structural team embraces their responsibility for human safetyand for the protection of natural ecosystems. We understand the dynamics between built structures and potential impacts to people and planet. We design efficient, effective, and durable solutions that fit the context of the community and environment.

Water & Dams

With recognized industry expertise in stormwater and flooding as well as natural riverine and manmade conveyance, Bodwé provides waterways analyses, flood studies, dam improvement and removal, and stormwater management design. And with every project, our team takes responsibility for protecting communities and natural ecosystems.

Site Development

For decades, WBK Engineering has partnered with municipalities and private clients to develop sites and create community. Today, our Building Services and Infrastructure Services teams are engaged in planning and development work that crosses the country, serving local, federal, and Indigenous clients with an approach that integrates people, place, and planet.

Focused on benefits for people and planet

We are mediators. We create bonds between communities of people and the places we shape and form, the infrastructure serving those communities, and the land, water, and habitats we protect and restore.
